About the event

Wild Camp Adventure: Connect, Explore & Build Confidence

Join us for a beginner-friendly wild camping experience designed to help you build confidence in the outdoors, connect with like-minded people, and immerse yourself in nature. Whether you’re new to wild camping or simply looking for a relaxed social adventure, this mixed-gender event is the perfect opportunity to learn, unwind, and enjoy the beauty of the wild.

Your Host

This weekend will be led by Tori who is passionate about creating welcoming outdoor experiences that bring people closer to nature. You’ll often find her organising group hikes, exploring with her adventure pup, Nala, taking a dip in the deep blue sea, or scrambling over mountains!

What to Expect

📍 Meet-Up & Site Exploration

We’ll gather at the entrance of Teign Valley Farm at 10 AM before making our way to the communal campfire area. After dropping off our gear, we’ll explore the 24 acres of land at our disposal, discovering the different flat pitches available for wild camping and locating the compost toilet. If you’d prefer to camp near others for confidence, we’ll help you find the ideal spot, ready for you to set up later in the afternoon.

🥾 Gentle Group Hike & Lunch Break

We’ll set off on a relaxed 8-km hike through scenic landscapes, giving us time to get to know one another and immerse ourselves in nature. Along the way, we’ll visit Heltor Rock, one of Dartmoor’s lesser-known tors, standing at 302 metres. At the summit, you’ll notice the granite is split in two by the dramatic Devil’s Gully, a striking natural feature.

After taking in the views, we’ll continue our hike through meadows and woodlands, soaking up the sights and sounds of the countryside. We’ll stop along the way for a well-earned lunch break before making our way back to camp.

⛺ Setting Up Camp

Time to pitch tents in your chosen spot. Whether you're setting up solo or near others for support, this is a great chance to get comfortable with your camping setup.

🌿 Explore, Forage & Fire Preparation

Enjoy some free time to explore, gather dry wood, and help us prepare the firepit for the evening.

🔥 Campfire Connection & Evening Feast

As the sun sets (20:49 PM), we’ll come together around the fire to share stories, enjoy a warming Firepot® camp food dinner, toast marshmallows for s’mores, and indulge in homemade cake. Whether you prefer to socialise or take a quiet moment to yourself, the space is yours to enjoy.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do I need any experience in wild camping?

No, this event is beginner-friendly! Teign Valley Farm is the perfect location for first-time wild campers. While we have 24 acres of land to explore, the farm offers a gentle introduction to wild camping, so you won’t be completely isolated in the middle of the moors.

The event is also hosted, so if you don’t feel confident pitching your tent alone, you can set up near Tori, our host, or another participant, provided they’re happy with that.

Is it the same price if I’m sharing a tent with a friend?

Yes, the price remains the same whether you're sharing a tent or camping solo. As this is a hosted event, meals are included. However, we encourage participants to sleep in their own tent, as this is a great opportunity to build confidence in wild camping.

What size tent do I need?

If you’re camping solo, a 1-2 person tent will be sufficient. While we won’t be hiking with camping equipment, please bear in mind that you’ll need to carry your gear down the valley to set up camp and back up when we leave on Sunday.

Is there drinking water available?

Yes, mains drinking water is available on the land. Additionally, if you have a water filtration system, we’ll be crossing streams on our hike, and the land features a natural spring that forms two small wildlife ponds. However, we recommend you arrive with a 2L water bottle filled up and make sure you stay well hydrated throughout the weekend.

Is parking available?

There is space for just one car at the gate entrance. We recommend parking in the village, which is only a 10 minute walk away. If it's more convenient, you can arrive a little earlier to drop off your kit at the entrance before parking in the village. Torie will be at the gate entrance from 9:45 AM to assist you.

Are there toilets on-site?

Yes, there are compost toilets available on-site. Torie will also provide guidance on how to manage without facilities on future wild camping trips, where it's likely that no toilets will be available.

Can I bring my dog?

While there will be no livestock on the land during the event and the area is well-fenced, there are two wildlife ponds that we prefer to keep undisturbed. Most dogs enjoy a plunge, and we advise making arrangements for your dog if you’d rather not share your tent with a soggy, pond-loving pup.

That said, Tori will have her adventurous four-legged companion, Nala, with her. We’re happy to accommodate up to two other dogs on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact the host directly to arrange this.

Is my gear going to be safe left on the land whilst we do the hike?

Yes, Ewon, a Wildish Club member, will remain on-site during the hike to look after the land and your belongings. Additionally, we have live CCTV cameras at the entrance for added security.

What are the cancellation terms?

  • Up to 6 weeks before the event – Full refund

  • Up to 4 weeks before the event – 50% refund

  • Less than 2 weeks before the event – No refund, but your ticket can be transferred to another person

Weather Contingency: If we need to cancel due to a severe weather warning, the event will be rescheduled to the 7th–8th June. Please keep both weekends available.
